I’ve been pestering my dad to buy bagels for a while. At the very least, the hounding has been going on since Christmas; I remember thinking about stopping by Noah’s after my lunch at Tabu Shabu on December 26th. (I didn’t.) In fact, the bagel requests might have begun around Thanksgiving.

When it comes to bagels, the picky Kang family makes things complicated. Noah’s Bagels is the minimum quality allowed; anything from Trader Joe’s or Safeway is deemed as pure trash. The Noah’s in El Paseo de Saratoga is easily accessible by bus, but the recent rain (and Noah’s 2pm afternoon closure time) made it hard for me to stop by on my own.

This Monday morning it was raining hard. Just for funsies, I put in another bagel request as soon as my dad woke at 8:20am. To my surprise, he agreed to drive over and pick up a dozen.

What finally changed his mind? It’s hard to say. Of course Dad wants to stop the nagging. He also doesn’t trust my choices when selecting bagel flavors. (His favorite is blueberry.) That morning trip could’ve been an on-the-way stop when picking up eggs from Trader Joe’s. (Our house was dangerously low due to the avian flu.) Finally, he could’ve been craving some himself.

PS: those bagels disappeared quickly. After the first morning, only five remained: Tim -1, Mom & Pop -1, Mom’s gift to Sarah -4, Chris -1, Sarah -1, bonus for buying a dozen +1.
