My caffeine addiction is back.
Due to Safeway’s $10 => $8 sale, I went for a 4-pack of 16oz Monster energy drinks. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of this drink. My tastebuds find it much too sweet. The caffeine content is also kinda high.
Anyway, I plan on splitting each Monster can over the course of three days. Each morning I will use my Oui yogurt cup to mete out roughly 5oz of the drink. 160mg caffeine / 3 = ~53.33mg per day, which is enough to wake me up in the morning. On days I need an extra boost, I’ll allow myself half the can.
Doing the calculations, that’s not a bad deal: 160mg x 4 / $8 = 80mg / dollar. My 16.9oz Mountain Dew 6-packs only provide 76mg x 6 / $7 = ~65.14mg / dollar. Red Bull 12oz 4-packs = 111mg x 4 / $11 = ~40.36mg / dollar. A jug of 48oz Starbucks Lightly Sweetened Iced Coffee does beat it in value, but so much black coffee at once can be kinda boring: 640mg / $6 = ~106.66mg / dollar.
Safeway often has similar deals on other energy drinks. (This week I believe it’s Rockstar 16oz for $1.29, with a minimum purchase of 4 cans.) With the upcoming storm, trips to the supermarket will become far and few between so this could be a good way to stock up.
