Here are a few recent tidbits from around 1/15/22:

Dad’s Skirt. A couple of days ago my mom found a photo where my dad donned lipstick and a skirt as a self-deprecating way to celebrate the birthday of a family friend. Once she saw the pic, my mom laughed and laughed and laughed; she liked it so much that she posted it to Facebook. Kudos to the old man for allowing such an embarrassing photo to be shared so widely.

Cheerios Cost. Everyday items sometimes can have big discrepancies in price. Take for example cereal. The 12oz box of Cheerios I bought at Safeway cost $5.49 after a 50c member discount. During my walk home, something didn’t feel right. As soon as I had the chance, I looked up the Cheerios deal from Costco I had gone for last time. That $6.99 bargain was for two 20.35oz boxes. Doing the math, the Safeway cereal was ~2.7x more expensive (aka ~0.46/oz vs ~0.17/oz).

Skechers Slip-Ons. It’s been approximately a year since I bought my slip-on Skechers. These shoes have served me well, but I will no longer be wearing them barefoot. Over the past year the built-in sole has worn down greatly near the toes; wearing them without socks nowadays results in a much rougher time on the feet.

Some might use the worn sole as an excuse to buy a new pair, but I’m holding back. The shoe is otherwise intact; spending that cash would be a waste.

New Balance Resistance Band. After using this band for a few days, I’ve decided to put it aside. For many of my stretches (i.e. “rows resistance” or “bilateral band”), the New Balance is too long. For many others (i.e. “shoulder extension pull down” or “left external rotation”), the resistance is too strong. All in all the New Balance is usable, but the old Renranring bands feel nicer. (Alas, if only the New Balance had adjustable clip-on handles like my brother’s.)

PS: watched Sing 2 (directed by Garth Jennings, released in December 2021)
