Thursday’s break in the rain gave me an excuse treat myself out to lunch. As soon as my 10:45am daily standup ended, I left the house. Walking down Blaney Avenue was an extremely blissful experience; it was windy, but the sunny temperature made things just right.

That is, until I realized that I had walked 20min in the wrong direction. Instead of heading towards Stevens Creek, I had gone towards Prospect. It was a lot more legwork, but my resolve was set: I would go the extra distance to try out Hawaiian loco moco at Sweet Maple (aka a recommendation from my friend JZ).

Was it worth it? I’d say so. Sweet Maple was not as crowded that Thursday. Thanks to my small party size of one, I was seated right away. I placed my Hawaiian loco moco order at 12:26pm and it arrived seven minutes later.

The $23 dish consists of a lump of rice with a hamburger patty and an egg on top. The entire plate is smothered by generous amounts of brown gravy and there is a helping of pickled ginger on the side.

There was more food than I could handle, but it was hard to stop eating because the gravy was so great. The crispy texture of the hamburger patty was also nice and reminded me heavily of fried chicken. Overall, I liked what I put in my mouth and I’m going to have to disagree with my friend PZ who describes Sweet Maple as “all looks and no taste.”

PS: next time I’m going to try their $24 Millionaire’s Bacon, which seems to be their signature dish

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
