When I woke up on Saturday, I found my sleep robe (aka the one with the unwanted hood) being used as a mini blanket, my CPAP mask sitting aside and my bedroom door slightly ajar.
I started my investigation into this strange scenario after finishing breakfast at 9am. The ResMed myAir app showed merely 2h31m of CPAP usage with two mask on/offs. That combination meant I barely used it before going to the ‘loo at 5am.
My initial hunch was that I had suffered a nighttime grand mal seizure and that my parents had tucked me back to bed. That would explain why the sleep robe was being used in that manner. It would also explain the door being open. However, the lack of a heartrate bpm spike in the AutoSleep logs made that possibility slim.
Eventually, I reached out for help. My dad was the first one I talked to; luckily, he had all the answers. Turns out, seizures were indeed involved.
My dad heard loud groaning coming from my room twenty minutes after I went to bed at 10pm on Thursday. He found me unresponsive and stayed by my side until the episode (aka a milder one without any muscle contractions) subsided. Before leaving, he did indeed cover me with my sleep robe; he claimed he thought it would make me warmer.
Come to think of it, these late evening CPS seizures have become more common lately. Similar events happened on 1/7 and 12/5. As for how to prevent them, I’ll have to do more research.
