On MLK Day 2022, my family ate lunch together to celebrate my brother Chris’ first full-time job (aka software engineer at LendingPoint). Two trendy new restaurants in the Cupertino area were under consideration, but neither made the call; Duan Chun Zhen was closed on Mondays and Grand Dynasty was deemed too expensive. Our party of four ended up at the familiar old Golden Palace on De Anza.
This was our first meal out together in ages. If Google Photos is to be believed, the last time Chris ate out with the folks was on June 5th, 2019 at the (now defunct) Sweet Tomatoes next to Sunnyvale Costco.
Anyway, we all had a good time. Despite being a holiday, the popular dim sum restaurant was only half full. We did not need to wait when we arrived around noon. My mom chose all our dishes from the start; these ended up being meatier than I hoped, so I cheated a little on my vegetarianism.
During our meal, Chris and I talked about all sorts of random things; I introduced him to the popular Wordle browser game (that day we guessed WITCH > SHINE > SHIRE) and he talked about the Arcane TV show’s reputation inside the LoL community (my dad and I had just finished watching it three days prior).
The check came out to be $80.41 before tip. Out of courtesy, I footed the entire bill. My brother’s new job starts on the 24th. Best of luck to him in his future work endeavors!
