Mom’s outing with friends on Wednesday gave my dad and I an excuse to try Koi Palace Contempo on Cupertino Main Street. My main takeaway from that dim sum lunch was that prices have skyrocketed.
My Dad paid $58 per head. Here are the dishes we ordered:
Chrysanthemum Tea — $4
Steamed BBQ Pork Bao — $7
Braised Chicken Feet — $9
Braised Yuba Roll — $8
Lobster Har Gow — $10
5 Flavor Chinese Soup Dumpling — $12
Typhoon Prawn Dumpling — $8
Crispy Noodles w/Exotic Seafood — $26
To be fair, he was very generous with the tip and did order take-home dishes for my brother and my mother. If we take away the chicken feet and yuba roll and tip the standard 15%, the price becomes $42.75 per head.
That’s more reasonable, but still high. At the end of the meal, there were lots of leftovers. If we skipped yet another dish, that could potentially bring down the cost to around $35 per head.
That being said, Koi Palace is still expensive. My Apple Wallet shows that I paid $32 per head when I treated my family out to Grand Dynasty dim sum for my brother’s birthday last May. Our Potato gang paid ~$20 per head when we ate at New Port last year. I distinctly remember eating a whole lot more during both those meals.
PS: during her outing, Mom paid $42 for her salad at Bazille inside Nordstrom at Valley Fair
