My dad’s definitely a Xiaomi fanboy of sorts. The latest purchasing spree he went on involved their electric toothbrushes; looking around the bathroom, I can see at least five new Xiaomi toothbrushes sitting on the counter.
When compared individually, the Xiaomi toothbrushes are a lot cheaper compared to Philips Sonicare or Oral-B ($10 vs $140). Even with the vast number purchased, the amount spent is still much less.
“Why buy so many?”, you might ask. Dad’s reasoning was to have one available for every family member (instead of going through the usual process of switching heads). He also ended up purchasing an extra one for himself, after seeing a deal for a newer $27 model that was too good to pass.
How are the Xiaomi toothbrushes doing in the Kang household? Last I checked, they are seeing some action. Funny enough, all these new toothbrushes have motivated me to start using my Philips Sonicare again. I still don’t use it every day, but at least it’s no longer gathering dust.
On a related note, my dad also bought a new Xiaomi smartwatch recently. That $50 gadget (“Redmi Watch 2 Lite”) arrived on Friday and is uncannily similar to my Apple Watch 6; the watch face my dad has chosen is almost an exact clone of Apple’s Meridian.
Anyway, Dad seems to be pretty goshdarn happy with his new purchase. Chatting with him about its features, I can see why. The watch’s battery lasts for a week. The model he bought does not have cellular, but it does have SpO2 monitoring built-in. Whether this satisfaction is a honeymoon phase, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
