I finished watching The Wheel of Time TV show at 7:43pm PST on January 28th, 2022 (warning: possible spoilers ahead).

The lackadaisical response from both friends who are fans of the novel (aka Velu) and newcomers to the series (aka Patrick) made me a bit hesitant to start the show. However, the fact that our family is subscribed to Prime Video and the relatively short length (aka 8 episodes) of the season allowed me to give the go ahead when my dad suggested it as our next feature.

When we finished the finale, my dad’s first comment was “that was a little bit weird.” Perhaps this is because the show doesn’t explain things well (aka one of the main complaints given by Velu); who the Dragon really is and what happened thousands of years ago is left somewhat murky. Then again, perhaps my 65-year-old dad is just too boring and conservative when it comes to fantasy / sci-fi.

Personally, I thought Patrick’s response of “it was ok, not amazing” sums it up pretty well. If and when the second season comes out, my decision to watch will solely depend on the reviews. (Amazon Studios, I’m giving you a chance to redeem yourself here.)

Speaking of which, I noticed a copy of Eye of the World (aka the Robert Jordan novel this particular season is based around) sitting on a bookshelf in the garage. Many online posters claimed that they turned to the books for more detailed explanations regarding the storyline and in the process got hooked. With that in mind, I’m tempted to put Eye of the World as my next read. (It’s main competitors are Crying in H Mart and God Emperor of Dune.)
