Over winter break, I finished two Peter Jackson trilogies: The Beatles: Get Back and The Lord of the Rings.

The Beatles: Get Back covers the making of the Let it Be album. The Beatles are my favorite rock band of all time. When I heard this documentary series was coming out, I was super excited for it. I downloaded it ASAP and jumped into it almost right away.

However, the length (aka 7 hours 48 minutes combined) made things daunting. I split the viewing into many, many smaller sessions. The rooftop concert at the end was fast and exciting, but some of the other footage (aka the Beatles bickering and joking around with each other during their rehearsal sessions) dragged on at times. I’d imagine it would be really hard to get through for a non-Beatles fan.

I decided to rewatch The Lord of Rings with my dad after we found a copy of The Fellowship of the Rings inside his YouTube Movies account. LOTR is also massive in length (especially since we decided to go with the extended edition for The Two Towers and The Return of the King), but things moved quickly due to the many scene changes, the epic music, and the numerous battle scenes. The only segment that felt long winded was the wrap-up ending after the ring is cast into the fires of Mount Doom.

Anyway, rewatching the Lord of the Rings was the right choice and I had a great time. That being said, I wonder what Amazon hopes to accomplish with its TV show remake that’s coming out later this year (aka something they spent literally a billion dollars on). The Peter Jackson movies are a lot to live up to; plus, there’s really not much that can be improved.

PS: I noticed that both these Peter Jackson series are really friendly towards stoners

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
