AutoWake’s scheduled alarm is supposed to trigger four hours before your wake time. For me, that would be 8:15am — 4hours = 4:15am. Unfortunately, I found its triggering very inconsistent. Many days it would fail to trigger completely. One day, it triggered at 7:43am, causing the “wakey wakey” voice alert to go off after I had woken and saw that the status was off.

All this ended up being frustrating. Before switching back to the default Apple alarm, I decided to try out the AutoSleep alarm instead. The two alarms from Tantsissa are very similar. Here are the main differences:

  • AutoSleep alarm cannot be automatically scheduled
  • AutoSleep does not have advanced features like sleep goal setting
  • AutoSleep alarm can be turned on any time in the day, not just after 9pm
  • AutoSleep alarm does not need a Complication on the active watch face
  • The maximum time for AutoWake’s smart alarm mode is 28minutes

Many of those differences are pluses for AutoSleep. Anyway, I’ve been using AutoSleep alarm for a week. It works far more reliably compared to AutoWake scheduled. Not to mention, the light sleep smart alarm on AutoSleep actually works. (The light sleep alarm never triggered early while I was on AutoWake.)

Having to set the alarm before bed is yet another chore, but it’s no biggie; it’ll be just like the olden times. As for what’s going to take the AutoWake Complication spot, I’m thinking Mindfulness. Being able to relax / meditate throughout the day is something I need to do more. Another big contender is HeartWatch.
