Part of my jaw has been jutting out near the gums where molar #18 was extracted in November. The point is rather sharp and very discomforting as it often scrapes against my tongue. More problematic is that the pain from the scrapes makes it hard to chew properly at times, which can result in other issues. (Half chewed food > throat blockage > poor breathing > seizure attacks.)

On Tuesday, it got so bad that I decided to reach out to my dentist. Dr Lu suggested calling the oral surgeon that removed molar #18 and having them file it down. I called Dr Wang’s office and through a stroke of luck was able to land an appointment right away.

Unfortunately, that’s where the luck ended. That visit garnered no real results; long story short, I was told to wait. The jaw poking through is a common occurrence after tooth extraction and should heal in 4–6 weeks. In the meantime, I should just leave it alone. Going forward I was told to chew more with right side, eat softer foods, and avoid touching the jaw point with either my fingers or my tongue.

PS: found that wearing a tooth cover / mouth guard (similar to those used to prevent teeth grinding at night) works well in temporarily alleviating the pain
