Recently, I had a insightful session with my dietician, and the valuable tips I received have truly been a game-changer. Here are the new aspects of my dietary plan that focus on balance, mindful digestion, and maintaining a healthy weight.
One of the key takeaways from my recent consultation with my dietician is the importance of balanced meals. Incorporating a variety of nutrients into each meal is crucial for overall well-being. The recommendation? Aim for three balanced meals a day, ensuring each includes a source of lean protein, healthy fats, and a mix of carbohydrates from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Cut down snacks to a minimum.
To optimize digestion and give my body the time it needs to process and absorb nutrients, my dietician suggested allowing 3–4 hours between meals. This spacing not only aids in digestion but also helps regulate blood sugar levels and provides sustained energy throughout the day. It’s about being mindful of when and how I fuel my body for optimal function.
Now that I’ve achieved a normal weight (aka 148lb / 67kg), my dietician advised maintaining my health by consuming 55–65g of protein per day (down from the previous recommendation of 60–75g). Protein plays a crucial role in muscle maintenance, immune function, and overall body repair. Meeting these protein goals ensures that I continue to support my body’s needs while keeping my weight in check.
Staying adequately hydrated is a cornerstone of good health. My dietician emphasized the importance of drinking at least 8 cups of water daily. Water plays a vital role in digestion, nutrient absorption, and the elimination of toxins from the body. By making hydration a priority, I’m not only supporting my physical health but also promoting clearer skin and improved mental focus.
We all know the detrimental effects of excessive sugar intake. To maintain a balanced diet and promote better health, my dietician advised limiting added sugar to less than 36 grams per day. This includes being mindful of hidden sugars in processed foods and choosing whole, unprocessed alternatives whenever possible.
Embarking on a journey to better health involves continuous learning and adapting. My recent session with my dietician has provided me with invaluable insights. They will certainly be hard to follow, but here’s to making informed choices, embracing balance, and savoring the journey to a healthier, happier me!
