It’s slightly embarrassing, but Bachelor in Paradise has become my next TV show. I got sucked into it during the season premiere on Tuesday, September 27th. That evening, I was all tangled up with a pH monitor + a catheter tube; I needed something to keep my mind off things, so I allowed the TV to keep running even after my usual news + gameshows finished.
The energy of the reality show was fun. The tropical Mexican setting was also nice and colorful. All those 20-somethings and 30-somethings running around on-screen made it not so different from a sitcom like Friends (or maybe even a nature documentary). And unlike the shows that I’m currently watching with my brother and my dad, Bachelor in Paradise does not require much cognitive action or memory. (I’m looking at you, Dark.)
I did not finish the entire episode on my first viewing, but ABC generously provides free streams. I’ve been watching these during breaks at work; the show works well as a temporary relief when I’m stuck on a problem or when I’m waiting for blockers. The 2x 2-hour episode format (aka about 168min per week) also means that there’s plenty to last until Friday.
