I began suspecting a lowered screen could be better for my neck after returning to the Sunnyvale office. As you may know, Google contractors have no desk and thus have to stare down at a tiny laptop screen all day. To my surprise, doing so actually felt more comfortable for my neck.

Eventually, I realized my 27” Samsung home desk monitor is raised too high and lowered it so that it is about the same level as a laptop. Thinking about it, having my display at that level explains many things. It explains why my dinner table book stand + iPad setup is so comfortable. It explains why I could work on my old MacBook Air for hours on end. It explains why raising my Kindle a couple of inches (as opposed to simply propping it up) makes it more readable.

In addition to the lowered monitor, I also began putting my keyboard on my desk. This is a similar setup to what Mom has been using for years. One advantage is that it allows me to rest my left hand on the tray when just clicking around. Another advantage is that it might allow me to use wider keyboards like the Velocifire, since the mouse won’t be as far to the right.

Anyway, whether this is a better setup for typing is still up in the air, but that’s no biggie. It’s super easy to switch back and forth.

PS: moved my kneeling chair off the side, making it easier to keep my legs under the desk

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
