Dad was the one who suggested our 10/12 hike. His dizziness spells from his 9/23 bike accident still occur occasionally, so I suggested taking an easier trail than normal. In the end, the choice came down to Rancho San Antonio or Los Gatos Creek Trail; the latter won out because of parking concerns.
We arrived at downtown Los Gatos just after 11am. We were lucky enough to nab a great parking spot, but finding a public restroom in downtown was hard. Eventually we bought + shared a cream danish from Purple Onion Cafe to use their customers-only restroom. (That fretting was unnecessary as we later discovered there was a park restroom just down the trail.)
We officially started our hike at 11:19am and headed towards Vasona Lake, away from Lexington Reservoir. The path was well-shaded, but filled with bikers and joggers, many shirtless. When we reached Oak Meadow Park, we rode the Billy Jones Wildcat train for fun. At $4/head for a 10min loop, it was not cheap. And of course, the ride is meant for youngsters.
Nevertheless, it was a pleasurable experience. It gave us a chance to rest our legs and enjoy the scenery of Vasona Lake County Park. Seeing all those Christmas light-covered wire sculptures even inspired Dad to suggest a future night walk there. After finishing the train ride, we walked to Vasona Lake where we rested a little more at a bench before turning back.
PS: My Garmin Fenix showed 5.53mi / 482cal / 16k steps. By walking so far, the easy hike became hard.
