Inspired by Apple TV+’s Severance, I went out for waffles Friday morning. (For context, there was a disturbing “Waffle Party” for Dylan in episode 8.) Now that Holder’s Country Inn has burned down, I had no choice but to go to IHOP.
That visit confirmed poor customer service there is the norm. I heard the staff happily chatting in Spanish while I waited up front, unattended. I was left standing until a friendly old grandma flagged down one of the waiters and let them know I was there.
At $24.10 after tip, the Belgian waffle combo + hot chocolate was surprisingly costly. (I was expecting it to be closer to half that.) Despite my complaints, the food was good enough that I’m willing to go back, but for future cravings, I’ll go for the waffles alone. Without hot chocolate, eggs or bacon, breakfast is roughly 33% less and much more affordable.
As for Severance, I finished the season one finale with my brother and my dad today at 4:26. Both my television companions claim the show is on the slow side; I can see where they are coming from, but the concept was interesting and I enjoyed the viewing (aka a rec from my friend Dev de la Porte).
PS: near the end of Friday’s meal, learned that I missed the $5 two pancakes, two eggs, two bacon/sausage deal of the day
