Lately I’ve been diminishing my iPhone’s battery life for naught. I go to sleep every night with the phone plugged in and the Sleep Cycle app running. However, I almost never wake up to the gentle sounds of that alarm; instead, I turn it off in the early morning hours and sleep in.

From my past experiments, I can tell that staying too long in bed is bad for my body. It triggers more grand mal seizures in bed and more CPS confusion spells after getting up. Anyhow, I’ve narrowed down why I sleep in so much.

99% of the time, I’m the first one up. That means I have to be careful about bothering other family members, so my activities are vastly limited. I mostly eat / read / click around on quietly while I patiently wait for the others to rise. Even something as innocuous as typing on the computer in my room can be enough to wake the other Kangs (thanks, mechanical keyboard). With almost nothing to do, my groggy mind jumps at the opportunity to go back to bed / stop thinking.

Temperature also plays a role. If present, chest water becomes extra freezing in the mornings. Being able to hug a blanket or a pillow in bed feels comfortable enough that I hardly want to move (even with the threat of seizures looming ever-present).

Anyway, starting tonight I’m going to set my Sleep Cycle to target +9h45m max. (If I sleep at 9:35pm, the alarm will go off between 6:50 and 7:20am.) More importantly, I’ll be more strict on making changes throughout the night and getting up when called. I’ll combat daytime tiredness with short naps (or caffeine) and morning chest coldness with warm clothes (I find the VISA hoodie my Mom bought at Goodwill works well).

Things sure as hell won’t be easy, but I have faith in myself. Go Tim!

PS: will allow some leeway for nights where I sleep early; 6:45am is the earliest I’ll set the alarm.

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
