Before they could make the switch, our subscription to EarthLink was cancelled. Dad discovered that AT&T offered a cheaper deal for fiber optics (~$55 vs ~$90/month) and signed up there instead.

The AT&T handyman came on Thursday, not long after I woke at 8am. Things were up and running soon enough, but Dad had to do much tweaking afterwards. The two-pack of new Google Nest WiFi routers contributed to the setup woes, but they were not completely at fault.

Things got messy enough that we even suffered an internet outage at Saturday 3pm. (Not 100% sure about the details, but it was after Dad got off the phone with AT&T customer support.) I managed to survive just fine, but it’s funny how bored some of the other family members were. Mom had so little to do without her Taiwanese news YouTube channel and Facebook feed that she agreed to watch The Legend of the Demon Cat (2017) with Dad and I.

Anyway, the AT&T employee sent to remedy things on Sunday revealed that the outage was caused by nothing more than a loose cable in the modem; the fix was over and done with in 5min. Like advertised, the new AT&T internet hits download speeds of 300Mbps (the old Comcast hit about 10MBps). Personally, I haven’t noticed much of a difference, but that’s because my quirky ‘net habits don’t need much bandwidth.

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
