Gabsahansil Korean Buckwheat, Part 1:

On the 16th, my mom agreed to go on her first walk of November. (Between you and me, the 59-year-old lady really needs to move more.) Originally, we were going to walk to Trader Joe’s and pick up some bananas. Not long after leaving the house, my mom remembered that H-mart was having a special Taiwanese promotion. That promotion convinced us to divert our route and head there instead.

The Taiwanese promotion did not have anything that impressed us enough to open our wallets. However, as I was walking around the Korean supermarket, a bunch of pillows caught my eye.

For context, lately I’ve been trying pillows again. It’s frustratingly hard to find one that works perfectly when your bed head is raised so high and I switch every so often. Earlier this week, I had settled on using rolled towels and was considering buying a memory foam neck roll off Amazon for convenience.

The pillows that caught my eye (“Gabsahansil”) were traditional Korean buckwheat rolls. The shape of the pillows were very similar to the ones I had been browsing online. The fact that they were filled with buckwheat instead of memory foam made them more interesting / enticing. (Buckwheat pillows are one of the few varieties that I’ve never gotten around to testing over the years.)

Against the recommendation of my mother (“Those things are too firm! We already have something similar at home in the garage! They also have the possibility of breeding insects!”), I grabbed a red Gabsahansil buckwheat roll and paid $21.86 for it.
