Gabsahansil Korean Buckwheat, Part 2:

I’ve been sleeping with the H-mart Gabsahansil buckwheat neck roll since the day I bought it. My first impression of the neck roll was that it reminded me of my memory foam ComfortFit Curved. Considering that both pillows are designed for neck support, that makes total sense.

I’ll admit that Mom was right when she said that buckwheat is firm. It took me some time to get accustomed to the firmness; the first few nights, I found it harder to fall asleep.

Luckily, it’s safe to say that Mom was wrong about her other two points. The pillow she was referring to in the garage was stuffed with buckwheat, but it was not in the shape of a neck roll. Plus, it has already been taken over by my brother. As for insect infestation, the dry climate of California means that scenario is highly unlikely, at least compared to humid places like Taiwan.

Anyway, my main complaint about the pillow is that it’s a little too rigid. The buckwheat seed hulls conform to the shape of my neck, but not as much as I would like. I suppose I could make the pillow a little more flexible by swapping out the pillow case, but finding one in the shape of a roll that fits perfectly will be a big undertaking. (Likely I’ll have to custom-make my own.)

I’m also unsure about where exactly to rest my head when using a buckwheat neck roll. Should the pillow rest solely on the neck or should it encompass part of the head as well? That question is harder to answer that you might think and I find myself shifting around often.

Despite those worries and complaints, I’m happy with my purchase. For now, the Gabsahansil has become my primary.
