A couple of Fridays ago, Safeway gave me a free bottle of Glaceau Smartwater electrolytes as a reward for buying $5 sushi. That water bottle was special because it reintroduced me to the wonders of the sports cap.

Drinking from water fountains has long been comforting for me. (My favorite spouts are the ones in Trader Joe’s Bollinger and Creekside Park.) This is because it shoots a stream of water that hits the back / top of the throat. A sports cap water bottle does something similar.

The Smartwater bottle worked well and I kept refilling and reusing it. Before long, I began looking for a more long term solution. Searching around Amazon, I came across a Gatorade bottle and the Under Armour Side Squeeze.

In the end, I went for the Under Armour. After using it for days, I found the Smartwater bottle easier to use. The Under Armour needed more pressure for each squeeze; there was also no flow of water with the lid on. (It was nice to be able to alternate between a strong stream and a gentle flow of water inside the same sip.) Finally, the extra weight of the Under Armour (aka thicker plastic, 32oz vs 23.7oz) made it less comfortable to hold high.

Despite my complaints, I’m satisfied with the Under Armour. It sits atop the dining table and is my primary water dispenser as of today.
