Google Face Recognition can be helpful at times. When I accidentally ran it on a photo from the Tzu Chi Charity Concert, it showed that AlL was not a new acquaintance. Truth be told, I had at least two other photos with the friendly Milpitas millennial: one from a 12/18/16 Christmas party, one from a 11/7/15 gathering.
However, it can also be inaccurate at times. When I ran it on SaS, it tagged her in several photos that were definitely wrong. Call me paranoid, but I’m 100% sure SaS wasn’t in CYS with me in 2007 and 2008. It also confused RoL for JeL and failed to tag RiL or MiP in our selfies.
Even with its mistakes, I spent a good chunk of time on Friday labelling the faces tagged. Having a chart of the people I know so readily available should help when my memory gets hazy. It’s true that Facebook search already helps, but Google Photos is better because my collection can’t be removed or modified by others.
PS: can’t for the life of me remember the name of the chubby, bald Intuit engineer with a mustache similar to Steve Harvey
