At 7:12am Wednesday morning, I woke up to a confusing scene. My CPAP DreamWear mask along with its tubing lay resting on my desk chair. What was strange was that I had no recollection of removing my mask; the last thing I remember doing was plugging my ears and going back to sleep after a 4am bathroom run.

The first possibility that came to mind was that I had suffered a grand mal seizure. That was slightly depressing because I seemed to do everything right in combating PND. However, things didn’t quite align.

If I had really suffered a seizure (aka my dad had come in and removed my mask), why was I still wearing my ResMed chin strap? Why would Dad remove the entire CPAP tubing at its base? And why would the heart rate monitor on my Apple Watch show no spikes?

I anxiously awaited my dad’s awakening for answers. At 7:45am, he confirmed that there had been no seizure that night. I had suffered a short confusion spell while watching Fleabag with him the evening prior, but that was it.

Anyway, here’s my current theory for the events that transgressed. 9:50pm bedtime + 7h6m machine usage hours = 4:56am time of happening. That’s when the hinge elbow on the machine side of the tubing probably came loose. My memory of the events are dim because I was half-asleep. In a haze, I left it off and went back to bed. All the facts align, but it’s a little freaky how I managed to do so much without remembering a thing.

PS: Zero-G may not be a good option for my adjustable bed; raised feet could be what’s causing breathing issues
