For our November birthday lunch this year, the Kangs ate at Leichi Santa Clara. This Japanese restaurant was suggested by one of my dad’s colleagues. I chose it over Wei’s Fish Cupertino because I was in the mood for something new. (If I had known Chris would’ve much preferred Wei’s Fish, I probably would’ve chosen accordingly.)

Last minute, I called in at 12:17pm and made a 12:45pm reservation. When we arrived there was ample seating, so the reservation was not needed. Our family ordered four dishes: Hokke fish bento for Mom, salmon shio bento for Dad, unagi / eel bowl for Tim, salmon chazuke bowl for Chris. The four of us also shared a side of agedashi tofu.

When the food arrived, it was easy to see why Leichi has $$$ on Yelp. The portions were tiny. Furthermore, the bento boxes were missing the typical sides; there was no miso soup and no salad included. (Small portions could actually be seen as somewhat of a plus because it prevents me from overeating.)

Anyway, the food was good. Mom liked her meal and claimed it felt authentic. When queried, Chris gave the place 7/10. However, the Kangs are unlikely to go back. The price is simply too high; the place also doesn’t that many options for vegetarians like Dad.

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
