I recently purchased a pair of Everlast Prostyle 2 boxing gloves for $34.06 during a Cyber Monday sale.

My current gloves are 16oz Venum gloves, but I wasn’t sure which size would be best for my new pair. I chose 12oz because I was under the impression that 12oz was the standard for bag punching while heavier gloves like the 16oz were made for sparring. That is not the case; looking around the room during TITLE Boxing, I see there is no clear standard. Many varying sizes of gloves were worn and there was no clear correlation between body weight and glove weight.

As for the opinion of the more experienced, I have a friend who uses 16oz TITLE gloves, explaining that the added weight helps him build arm strength. On one occasion when I forgot my gloves, the coach handed me a pair of 14oz TITLE gloves. This suggests that glove selection can depend on personal preference, training goals, and availability rather than a strict size guideline.

I’ve tested my 12oz Everlast gloves during my last few TITLE Boxing sessions. They’re noticeably lighter than my 16oz gloves, and it’s taken some time to adjust to the new feel. During my first week using them, I experienced finger soreness. However, I’m inclined to attribute this to the day I borrowed the 14oz TITLE gloves. Near the end of that boxing session, my fingers hurt so much I almost ended early. The innards of those gloves felt tighter than I’m used to, and it’s possible that my hand wraps were applied too tightly that day, adding extra pressure on my fingers.

Even though I have lingering doubts about whether I should’ve gotten heavier gloves, I’m growing accustomed to the 12oz Everlast gloves. They’re lighter and different, but they work.
