Chris agreed to help me spend my The Counter BOGO coupon. We drove to the Cupertino location at 11am on Tuesday. To our dismay, Google Maps had listed the wrong store hours; the restaurant wasn’t open for another 30min so we looked for other options.
Chris said no to the Sweet Maple next door, claiming he was not a fan of breakfast food. He was interested in the newly-opened Kabab & Currys, but that spot was also closed until 11:30am. In the end, we ate at the YGF Malatang in the Marukai plaza. (Funny thing, by the time we finished searching, it was 11:30am.)
It was my first time there and Chris’s second. The place is a build-your-own meal Chinese restaurant chain. You grab hot pot ingredients from a pantry and place it in a big bowl. The bowl is weighed and you choose to either turn it into a soup or a dry mix.
Chris got the beef bone soup, I went for the sweet & sour tomato soup. I liked my tomato soup and finished it at leisurely pace after Chris left me for a dentist appointment at 12:20pm. I definitely put too much meat in my bowl, but everything went down smoothly. (My long walk / jog home after the meal definitely helped.)
