On Thursday, I hitched a ride with Dad to his workplace at 3101 Scott Boulevard and did my daily exercise by jogging north down the San Tomas Aquino Trail towards Baylands (aka 5.86mi, 10:57/mi).
Near the finish, I took a wrong turn on the San Tomas Aquino Trail. As I approached the unnamed lake west of the Great Baylands, instead of turning left onto the Bay Trail, I continued down San Tomas Aquino Trail. That path continued between the unnamed lake and Saratoga Creek; eventually it led to a dead end.
I decided to forge my own shortcut back to the trail. Big mistake. What followed was a mile-long trudge through thick brush and towering weeds, each step a reminder of why sticking to the path is usually the smarter choice. By the time I emerged, I was scratched up, dirty, and far from where I wanted to be.
