As a serious gamer, my brother needed the precision and responsiveness of a high-quality keyboard. However, three keys (Ctrl, E, 3) on his Drop Alt 65% had become faulty over time. They were slow to press and occasionally unresponsive, causing frustration during gaming sessions. Despite still being usable, these issues were serious for someone who demanded peak performance from their gear.
He was also annoyed by the 65%’s lack of function keys. Last week, he splurged on a fancy 75% mechanical. My brother let me have his Drop Alt mechanical keyboard.
Later that day, while doing PT exercise, disaster struck. When I do standing rows, I use the C-clamp of my Stand Up keyboard tray for support. This makeshift solution worked, but that day it was too much pressure. The left clamp unclipped. In a moment of panic, I watched as everything plummeted to the ground. Upon inspection, I discovered that key 1’s keycap was chipped, and the switch for key 6 was crushed, making its keycap slightly off-position. It was disheartening to see my brother’s gift in this state. However, I was still willing to use it.
That evening, I shared the unfortunate incident with my brother. He surprised me with even more kindness. He not only empathized with the situation but also offered a solution. He gave me a replacement switch for key 6, ensuring that I could repair the damaged key and continue using the keyboard without further issues.
