On Tuesday, I went back to the Pho Banh Mi on De Anza to try out their Vietnamese sandwiches. Unfortunately, they were closed, making that tiring long 7,214-step walk feel like it was for nothing. It also meant that brother Chris would not be able to try it out before his Texas / Japan trip.

Went back on Wednesday and bought a big $40 batch of banh mi for the Kangs: pork belly, grilled chicken, grilled pork, lemongrass beef, vegetarian (aka lemongrass tofu). I went for so many sandwiches to take advantage of their 4-for-1 deal; it also allowed me to try out many more flavors.

My dad had the vegetarian all to himself. My mom and I split the pork belly / grilled chicken on Wednesday; I ate the lemongrass beef on Thursday. The grilled pork was gifted to my mom’s friend Terrie when she came over for tea. (Mom did take a bite of the grilled pork before handing over the sandwich.)

Anyway, I liked everything that I ate, but I’m too lenient a judge. Mom claims she likes Lee’s Sandwiches better and ranks the ones she tried like this: grilled pork = grilled chicken > pork belly. Dad believes Pho Banh Mi and Lee’s are approximately the same, but the former has better bread.

As for next time, I’ll probably order the grilled chicken or try the veggie. The meat in the pork & beef sandwiches I tried was a little too tough for my weak throat / stomach.
