Here are a few food tidbits from around February 2, 2022. Minor warning: all of them happen to involve my mom in some way.

Andes Crème de Menthe. These mint chocolate candies were my mom’s favorite when she first came to America. She bought a box recently that has been completely taken over by my brother. I typically don’t like milk chocolate, but curiosity allowed me to give these a try. I have to say, they are actually pretty good. I find myself snatching up a few from time to time when Chris isn’t looking.

Walkers Clone. Following a recipe she found online, my mom baked a clone of the Walkers shortbread cookies. The ones created are quite similar in taste and appearance. That being said, our family hasn’t been eating too many of these goodies; my mom is proud enough of her creation that she has been saving them for her friends. (Side note: the name of the cookies almost got my mom to take her first grocery store walk in months, but last minute she bailed.)

Blueberry Waffles. I bought a pack of Trader Joe’s Naturally Flavored Blueberry Waffles after hearing my mom praise them (“These are crispy and really easy to make!”). On Monday, I used a pair to make a peanut butter jelly (plus avocado slices) sandwich. That PB&J was tasty, but the hand-churned waffles made with the Dash mini maker are still better IMO.

Wasabi Furikake. Instead of buying my typical JFC Nori Komi furikake, I decided to try out their Wasabi Fumi flavor. Unlike what the name implies, this topping wasn’t actually that spicy. It went rather well with the Japanese rice balls my mom cooked last week.

Trader Joe’s O’s. At $2 for 15oz, this cereal is a lot cheaper compared to Cheerios. (Last I checked, a 12oz box of Cheerios was $6 at Safeway.) But does it hold up? …the answer is yes, at least in my book. As for my mom, she disagrees and claims that the Trader Joe’s copy is a lot less flavorful. That is, until she tasted them again today evening. After that bowl, she conceded that Joe’s O’s are actually pretty good.
