To combat constant snacking and other bad habits derived from boredom, I embarked on a journey to find a variety of hobbies.
PC gaming used to be one of my biggest passions. To get myself back into that pursuit, I splurged on a $999 gaming laptop (“Lenovo LEGION PRO 5i - GeForce RTX 4060”) at Costco. Far Cry 6 was the first game I started and so far it’s been muy excelente. Gaming really is a thrilling escape from reality and a source of endless entertainment. (Even Elon Musk thinks so.)
Learning to play the cello was a deeply enriching journey that brought music into my life in a profound way. From the graceful movements of bowing to the resonance of each note, the cello embodies a sense of elegance and emotion that captivates the soul. Due to my shoulder injuries, nowadays I can’t play for long and my skills have deteriorated, but playing my Montagnana still brings me great pleasure.
All my volunteer work with Tzu Chi has made Mandarin skills more valuable. I embarked on the journey of reading Chinese. From mastering the intricacies of writing pinyin to expanding my vocabulary, each step in this linguistic adventure brings me closer to fluency. (List of apps I’ve been using: Duolingo, HelloChinese, Anki flashcards, Google Translate).
In the pursuit of hobbies, we discover more than just skills and interests; we uncover aspects of ourselves that enrich our lives in profound ways. Whether it’s the thrill of virtual exploration, the beauty of musical expression, or the depth of linguistic discovery, hobbies offer a path to self-discovery and fulfillment. As we embrace new passions and cultivate diverse interests, we nourish our minds, bodies, and spirits, creating a life filled with purpose and joy.
