On Sunday, January the 30th, I ended up consuming an inordinate amount of calories.
For breakfast, I had about a thousand cals:
- Natto beans = 100cal
- Nutri-Grain breakfast bar = 130cal
- Banana = 110cal
- Avocado toast sandwich = 400cal
- Vital Proteins collagen powder = 90cal
- Kombucha = 60cal
- Nuts and other snacks = 100cal
- Small slice of cheesecake = 60cal
Truth be told, I knew that I had a big day in terms of food and was planning on eating a tiny breakfast, but somehow got carried away.
For lunch, I had a giant meal at Grand Dynasty with my friends Tony, Sean and Eric. It was the first time we ate at this newly opened dim sum place and we ordered the following:
- Fried taro dumplings
- Fried shrimp balls
- Pan fried turnip cake
- Char Siu Sou
- Shrimp rice noodle rolls
- Chicken feet
- Shumai x2
- Har gow x2
- Congee (Preserved Egg and Pork Porridge)
By the end of the meal, we were stuffed to the brim. We were full enough that we decided to skip boba. At $32 per head, Grand Dynasty was not as expensive as I thought it would be. It offers good quality food, but other dim sum places are decent enough that the extra price difference (aka ~40% more) is not really justified IMHO.
After getting home that day, I tried to get my mom to move our Lunar New Year’s dinner to Monday. She refused, her reasoning being that my dad would have too many meetings. With that in mind, I had no choice but to join my family for a big celebration at six.
I tried to eat less during New Year’s dinner, but some of the dishes were tasty enough that I ended up pigging out. I’m shamed to admit that I also allowed myself multiple cups of Apple Sidra. All in all, if I had to estimate the total amount of calories consumed on the 30th, I would say close to 4,000.
PS: oddly enough, I experienced no stomach bloating that day despite eating so damn much
