About a week ago, I received a distressing email from Peak PT. Starting on April 26th, they will no longer count Cigna medical insurance as an in-network provider for physical therapy visits.

On my latest visit, I talked it over with the receptionists. I was told that out-of-network visits would cost $150 for the initial check-up and $125 for each follow-up appointment. Those prices were way too high for my poor wallet; immediately, my first thought was to find a new physical therapy center that accepts Cigna (i.e. Cupertino Physical Therapy down the street).

However, my second thought was to put my physical therapy sessions on hold. In October of last year, my therapist Kelly told me that my weekly improvements were small enough that I should stop coming in altogether. At the time, I didn’t feel safe without an expert on call, so I negotiated the visits down to once a month.

Anyhow, it’s been close to five months since then; perhaps it really is time to move on. Besides, I do have a solid list of exercises that should stay relevant for a while. Looking back, going back to physical therapy in June 2021 was the right decision to do. Even though they stopped peaking around October, I continue to notice improvements. If I hadn’t gone back, I would be a lot weaker and flimsier today.
