The winds were unusually high on Tuesday. In our area, they maxxed out close to 50mph. At 12:25pm, the power went out, right when I was 4min away from finishing the first episode of Silicon Valley season 5. Everything at work was under control so I did not think too much of things. In fact, it was a good excuse to treat my brother Chris out to lunch and ask him about his adventures in Japan.

Chris was craving Japanese curry. Our initial plan was to grab some at the Hmart food court, but the place was closed due to the power shutdowns. We drove down De Anza, hoping to grab some at the Curry House, but that place had closed. Finally, we settled on I Heart Bento down the street. (Chris ordered a saba fish bento and was displeased with the experience, giving the place 2/5 stars.)

During our outing, we noticed that power was out all across town, signifying that the problem could be much more substantial than we initially assumed. That was indeed the case. ABC News reported that at its peak, there were 450k customers affected and that it was the biggest Bay Area power outage since 1995.

Checking the PG&E page, the estimated fix date was Thursday 10pm; it looked as if we would have to spend two-and-a-half days in the dark. Luckily, the power came back early. Shortly after 3:30pm on Wednesday, electricity was restored.

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
