Due to the way Dad’s hummingbird camera was mounted, it was damaged when Mom opened our glass screen door one Friday. The movement of the door dislodged the duct tape, causing the YI security webcam to come tumbling down crashing.

At first, it looked like the YI webcam was completely done for. However, it showed timid signs of life the next few days. Tweaking it allowed it to come back online, albeit with a black-and-white stream. However, that stream was unreliable and often went offline. After a few days of constant fixing, my dad gave up and spent $40 on a replacement.

The Wyze Cam Pan v3 came on Tuesday and was mounted in place by Wednesday. This time, instead of taping the camera to the window, Dad used a stand.

Long story short, it works. Wyze conveniently integrates into Google Home, allowing us to stream a video to our Nest Home Smart Displays; the one in the kitchen has the hummingbird video running almost 24/7, since the Wyze shows a clear picture even at night. Wyze also has the additional feature of being able to swivel and move remotely, but we’ve been avoiding that so as not to scare the birdie.

PS: the after dark stream of the hummingbird makes it look a lot more blue, further supporting my theory it is Anna’s breed

Hi everybody. I like food, Broadway showtunes, Pokemon and LEGOs. Oh, and I also do a bit of programming occasionally.
