Once upon a time, my mom offered to treat me out to a bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Due to various hindrances, that meal never happened. Luckily, I managed to glean the name of the restaurant (“Duan Chun Zhen”) before she refused to speak no further.
Duan Chun Zhen is located next to Marina Food Cupertino. Its Yelp score rests at 3.5 / 5, but the restaurant caught my interest because my mom is a very picky eater; pleasing her enough to get a recommendation must mean that they’re doing something right. (Note: Mom no longer seems as excited / impressed about the place. After I told her about my visit, she claimed she’d only gone once.)
Anyway, I stopped by on Monday and went for the “braised beef shank with tendon” version of their beef noodle soup. Instead of your standard noodles (aka thin or flat), I decided to try out their handmade wide noodles.
The beef noodle soup came out in 12min and was steaming hot. Everything was easy to swallow and I managed to finish the entire bowl. The handmade wide noodles were an excellent choice; I liked their texture a lot. At $18 per bowl ($17 if you go without the tendons), it’s not cheap but it is reasonable in this day and age of high Bay Area prices.
PS: if I ever return, I’ll be sure to try the popcorn chicken that Yelp reviewers seem to love
