I overexerted my legs and feel really sore. My muscles have been overworked for days, but they reached their definite limit on Friday. Today morning, I felt super tired just from testing out my dad’s Bruno Marc sandals for ten minutes; afterwards, I had to crash on the couch to rest up.

I would say that my new 27min runs contributed greatly to the overexertion. The rule-of-thumb for increasing runs is 10% per week. My old runs lasted about 18min, so 27min was a huge jump. I knew it was a risk going in, but my reasoning was that since I was allowing myself more cooldown time during the runs, it would not be as much of a strain.

Perhaps it would have been okay if I did not walk so much as well. I reached over 18,000 steps on 3 out of the 7 days last week.

The breaking point was reached on Friday when I took a walk after a 25min elliptical run. For some reason, walking right after elliptical runs really stresses out my legs. This is not the first time this has happened, but some things are hard to keep in mind when other, more pressing matters are at hand. I was willing to push my body to the limit because I was so intent on getting my mucus unclogged and my life back to normal.

Anyway, I’m going to let myself rest this Memorial Day weekend with no runs and minimal walks. Once my legs heal, I will use 24min as my new runtime and adjust based on difficulty. I will also limit my walking and avoid anything too intense (i.e. walking to Jack in the Box and back).

PS: watched Belle (released in July 2021, directed by Mamoru Hosada)
