Inside the flurry of MyHealth messages received last week was a recommendation to try Mucinex (aka guaifenesin).

It was around this time last year that I first tried Mucinex. I began my journey on 4/9/22 by taking a pill after every meal. Daytime usage stopped on 5/30/22 due to the Korean tofu incident (I was under the impression that it was making it harder to regurgitate) and I began focusing on using it at night. Nighttime usage stopped on 7/8/22. My 6/19/22 grand mal seizure discouraged me; the introduction of GERD H2 blockers caused me to halt it completely.

That recommendation caused me to give Mucinex another look. If oil is truly the cause of my mucus, it would explain why Mucinex felt ineffective at times. During my usage last year, I had many meals filled with oily foods, letting the problem run rampant at its source. I also did not account for many other negative factors at the time (sleeping in, cold chest, etc.)

Anyway, I dug out my old pills and checked their expiry. Everything expires around December 2023 / January 2024. I don’t plan on re-introducing a regular stream of Mucinex into my diet just yet, but will pop a pill every now and then when my vomit becomes thick (like on Saturday).

PS: interestingly enough, the Healthline article I found promotes mucus relief through Vicks Sinex or Sudafed; Mucinex not emphasized
