Currently my Google team is in-between projects and Tuesday was especially light on work. I used the free time to walk over to Chicken Meets Rice and give it a go. This small chain restaurant inside the 99 Ranch Eat Up food court caught my attention several months ago when I was looking for new places to dine around Cupertino.
Despite its glowing Yelp reviews, none of my friends were interested. To be fair, I don’t blame them; chicken and rice are everyday items that are easily made at home.
Anyway, I was the first customer to arrive after they opened at 11am. I used their touchscreen to order a take-out box with fried chicken + Hainan chicken on white rice with Thai ginger sauce on the side. The order came out within ten minutes and I ate it right then and there.
The portion size was a little much, but the food was good enough that I managed to finish everything. The Thai ginger went along very well with the warm rice and boneless chicken pieces. I would definitely be down to grab it again. As a testament to its quality, Chicken Meets Rice was by far the most popular spot inside that food court. While I was there, a few stragglers grabbed Noodleosophy; absolutely no one else stopped by Vampire Penguin.
PS: brother Chris also tried out Chicken Meets Rice recently; he was unimpressed and unlikely to go back again
