Jason SB invited the entire Tzu Chi AV / Programming team to enjoy a concert put on by the One Song Orchestra (灣聲樂團), a string orchestra on tour from Taiwan. Through his social connections at Acer, he had obtained free tickets to the event (“Sound from Formosa”) which was happening Friday night at the Montgomery Theater in downtown San Jose.
Out of everyone he invited, I was the only fish that lapped up the bait.
The concert started at 7:18pm and ended at 9:40pm. There was a lot of talking involved. Before each song, the conductor Lee Che-yi would talk about the piece in Mandarin; one of the first violinists would give the same intro in English.
One Song started off with traditional Taiwanese melodies arranged for string orchestra and later diversified into other tunes (i.e. Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson). It was a fun pop experience and the two hours passed in no time.
PS: not sure why, but only half the One Song orchestra (aka 15 members vs 30) was present at this concert.
