On Saturday, I went to the Cupertino Library for the first time in years. The visit was suggested by my girlfriend Shannon, who is a big fan of the place. Back when I worked at Apple, I would pass by this particular public library every day on my commute, but I never stepped inside.
The plan was to spend the entire afternoon in the library, from when it opened at 1pm to its closing time of 6pm. Honestly speaking, that seemed like a little much, but I agreed nonetheless. Anyhow, I’m glad I did. The quiet atmosphere of the library was much more pleasant compared to that of home and made it easier to concentrate.
Passing the five hours was a lot easier than imagined. I spent most of the time on my iPad listening to Led Zeppelin IV, writing blog posts, and helping Shannon plan our next dates. At one point, Shannon and I attempted to watch The Terminator on Amazon Prime Video, but that ended early.
In the future, the Cupertino Library could become a regular destination for Shannon and I on Saturdays. Sitting in the tree shaded lawn was very comfortable; with a nice picnic blanket it could be a good place to eat lunch or drink tea / coffee while waiting for the 1pm opening. (You need to get there early in order to snag a good table with a nice view and power outlets.)
However, if we do go back, I need to remember to bring my contact lenses. Despite the June 15th California mandate, Cupertino Library still requires face masks. During my visit, there was a security guard who was very strict about the masks; I was reprimanded for not covering my nose. For me, the fogging of the glasses is a major annoyance so contacts are a must in situations where I spend long periods of time wearing a mask.
PS: watched The Mitchells vs. the Machines and Minamata
