Bought some heel insert cushions (“MATIE FIX Heel Grips”) for my Skechers. My hope was that they would adjust the loose fit of the shoe, but that has not been the case. Even with two cushions stacked atop each other, they didn’t really make much of an impact.

I left them attached for about a week. That week I happened to walk a helluva lot; on most days, my step count exceeded 20,000. However, on Friday I realized that the double cushion setup could be causing my calves to feel sore. Midway through my Calabazas walk, I reduced the cushions to one per heel; to my relief, things felt more comfortable right away.

Going forward, I have lots of options. Inside the pack there were 8 stickers; I still have 4 left. Basically, I have the capacity to configure any setup I want. (One of the crazier ideas I have is using the heel cushions in front of the toes.) For now, I’ll keep one cushion per heel.

On a related note, I gave the Merrells another shot by wearing them on a Saturday stroll to Trader Joe’s (aka a trip to pick up mochi ice cream to fight the summer heat). They were wearable + bearable, but the walk reaffirmed that the Skechers are more comfortable.
