I’m proud to announce that my Stanford Health medical bills have finally been paid. The dilemma started in February, when I attempted to pay on the Cigna website with the InstaMed service. InstaMed processed my payments by printing out checks pointing to my Chase savings account and mailing them to Stanford.

A few checks were deposited, but many others remained up in the air. It was hard to tell which payments had gone through. Mid April, InstaMed expired some of the checks and refunded me the money. Even with a few checks removed, there was too much data to sort through so I decided to wait until all had expired.

Wednesday afternoon, I checked the 5/22 billing statement from Stanford. To my relief, there were only four listings. The first listing I could ignore because it was from 2021; all my InstaMed payments were done on 2022 visits. The last visit could also be ignored because it was in April; after the February fiasco, I definitely would not have used InstaMed again.

The two remaining listings did not appear anywhere in my Chase refunds. However, looking over the claims on the Cigna site I noticed that the numbers added up. For example, on 1/27 Stanford combined everything into one fee instead of billing me separately like Cigna / InstaMed.

Anyway, the total I paid was minuscule (probably less than what each my friends paid for their sushi boat birthday dinner at Mizu last week), but it feels good.
