Last last Thursday I got to El Camino Center 30min early. There was a Skechers store nearby so I swung by to try on some shoes while waiting for my friends. The 2021 Delson-Camden Skechers quickly made it my favorite brand, but my relationship has soured in recent years. Nothing I bought (aka Avillo slip-ons, Vigor Serpentine sneakers) seemed to fit properly.
Anyway, the Skechers size 8-wide I tried in the store felt great. It reminded me of the perfect fit of the Delson-Camden and convinced me that my Vigor Serpentine felt loose only because I had gotten 8.5-wide. Considering that my Salomon Sense Ride 4’s are too narrow (making them okay for short runs, but not for long walks), I almost bought a pair on the spot.
Later that day, I saw a $36 deal on Dealnews for Skechers Go Walk Max. I made sure to select 8-wide before clicking the buy button and happily going to bed.
The next day, some doubts came to mind. I saw that Skechers are regularly discounted to ~$45 on Amazon, so $36 wasn’t all that much of a deal. Most disturbingly, I remembered my old Avillo’s were also 8-wide. I was able to brush that thought away by reasoning that the Avillo’s were a relaxed fit version of the brand.
When the new Go Walk Max arrived on Saturday, all my doubts were erased. They fit so well that I immediately put them to the test (i.e. a Memorial Day hike down Tony Look trail and a long trek around Stevens Creek Boulevard from Mitsuwa to the Starving Musician). When it comes to shoes, it’s bad to jump to conclusions, but I think I made the right choice.
