On a Tuesday trip to Costco, I bought the Tempur-Pedic Serenity pillow. This pillow is the retail equivalent of their Cloud pillow (aka the best reviewed and most popular product on their online store). It is true that I have many many pillows, but at $30, the price was too good to miss. For comparison, the Cloud’s base price is $89.

I started sleeping on it that very night. It feels very similar to my ComfortFit Curved pillow, just a little less firm. Like the ComfortFit, the Serenity works better when my adjustable bed is mostly flat. One night I tried raising the bed head, only to find it much harder to sleep because it made my chest a lot colder.

Was it worth the buy? …probably not. The non-curved side of the ComfortFit would’ve provided the same experience. If I wanted something truly different, I should’ve gone for an ergonomic neck pillow similar in shape to the one my mom has (aka one with a dip in the middle). If I wanted something practical, I should’ve gone for a contour neck pillow 4” in height (aka the recommended height for my shoulder width).

Nevertheless, I’m happy with my purchase. It’s naive, but being able to rest my head on a top namebrand product after a hard day’s night feels nice. (No more fretting about whether an inferior copycat pillow is contributing to my sleep problems, yay!) Plus, even with those alternatives, I will likely still have to make adjustments during the night (i.e. lowering bed / switching to a softer pillow). Alas, that’s life with weak shoulders + neck.
