The big question after Wednesday’s bike ride is…would I do this again? The answer is maybe. While it’s true that I haven’t figured out the cause of my Apple commute fainting, my body is stronger compared to back then. My mucus is more controlled and my energy levels are higher.
However, the Apple commute fainting could be due to posture. I have the theory that sitting on a bike puts unnatural pressure on the neck, especially when raise your head to look at your surroundings. Bad posture has resulted in CPS incidents in the past, so the theory has been my main consideration against biking these last few years.
That being said, Wednesday’s bike ride goes against the theory. 12.36mi is a long time to remain in a bad position; even more so, considering that Chris’s bike had curved handlebars, making me hunch over and raise my head higher than usual.
Surviving so long without fainting gives support to the notion that biking is okay now. I did feel a little sore in the neck the next day, but the same could be said about other parts of my body. (On the day of, the handlebars were hardest on my wrists, but I quickly got accustomed to them.)
The counterargument would be that bicycling is similar to napping on the couch: the risk of CPS seizures is there, but at times it can be reduced. Anyway, I’m going to be careful. For now, I’ll continue to stay off-road, away from the cars.
PS: 12.36mi is nothing for my dad. The old man bikes 16mi on days of work, 17mi on trips around Saratoga.
