16oz energy drink cans don’t fit inside my Lifefactory glass bottle when I split in three. The 10.66oz needed for storage is just over its marked capacity of 9oz. To be fair, the Lifefactory can hold a little past its markings (roughly 10oz total). As long as I’m filling to the brim, I get a good estimate, though on days with a new can, I end up with slightly more.
For now, I’ll continue to stick with the Lifefactory. Splitting a Monster (or Rockstar) in two provides just the right amount of caffeine and soda for my liking. Splitting in three will save money, but I’m willing to put up the extra cents for now.
Speaking of energy drinks, I tried out Celsius. This was the zero sugar, zero aspartame drink sold in 12oz cans at Costco. After scrounging Safeway and Walgreens, I was lucky enough to find them on the shelves at Target. Each can has 200mg of caffeine. With the higher concentration, it is easier to split / store in my Lifefactory.
However, as mentioned earlier, 8oz is an ideal amount. (After all, Red Bull 8.4oz started the energy drink trend.) Drinking only 4oz a day feels meager, even though it contains a similar amount of caffeine. Plus, the savings from Celsius are minimal. Costco prices: $29 / (18 cans x 3 uses / can) = ~$0.54; Safeway Rockstar “Buy 2, Get 3 More” sale prices: $6 / ((2 cans + 3 cans) x 2 uses / can) = $0.60.
