On Saturday, I had lunch with my friends Robert, Velu, and Aravind. The planning was quick and somewhat makeshift. I suggested grabbing food at Super Duper Burger (aka a restaurant very compatible with the keto diet), but we ended up at Anjappar Chettinad (on the Lawrence Expressway) since Robert was craving Indian cuisine.
That turned out to be a decent choice for keto. I ordered a “Hot & Sour Chicken Soup” along with the “Chilly Fish Dry.” With the exception of carrot bits inside the chicken soup, most of what was on my plate looked keto friendly. The meal itself lived up to the spicy reputation of the restaurant; I had to repeatedly ask for my water cup to be refilled.
Interestingly enough, everyone else seemed unsatisfied with their food at Anjappar Chettinad; that day, I was the only one who finished their entire plate. When we went around, 3 out of 5 stars was the average rating given for the food. Personally, I didn’t think it was that bad, but then again, I’m not a picky eater (and not a good judge of foreign cuisines).
After lunch, we reconvened at TP Tea in Cupertino, where we were joined by my friend Powell. Despite being open for years now, that place still had a long line outside. Once we got our drinks (I got the “Tie Guan Yin Latte w/Oat Milk and Tea Jelly”), our party of five walked over to Calabazas Park and found a brightly colored table in the shade. We recanted old tales and enjoyed the fresh air for about forty minutes before finally parting ways.
Anyhow, it was nice meeting up with these old buddies. Now that we all live so close again, hopefully more such hangouts will happen. Possible future events discussed on Saturday include a Smash party @ Powell’s house and watching the new Space Jam together. It may be tough finding a time that works with everyone’s busy schedules, but I’m sure we’ll pull through.
