When my mom saw the Sleep Number Comfortfit Curved, she started criticizing my choice immediately. However, that criticism abated after she tested it out on my dad’s living room bed. In fact, she seems to have taken a liking to it.
Truth is, I made the exchange at the Sleep Number store without trying out the pillow; when I unbagged it at home, I realized that it was much firmer and higher than expected. It was even firmer than my backup Sagino pillow. Despite all that, I still slept on it the past few days.
The first two nights were similar. I had extended periods of deep sleep, but had trouble falling asleep again after waking up at 5am.
The third night I had massive trouble falling asleep. I tried all sorts of things (i.e. raising my bed, taking off my CPAP, turning on white noise) but it was not until 1:15am that I finally found a comfortable position (bed flat, no chin strap, hugging Beautyrest pillow under blankets) that allowed me to fall asleep. However, the Comfortfit pillow was not to blame; the culprit was most likely anxiety, sugar and caffeine.
The fourth night I slept a lot. Prior to bed I was sure to stay away from caffeine, naps and electronics. After hitting the bed early at 9:15pm, I fell asleep almost right away. I woke up a few times during the night, but I was able to stay asleep until nearly 8am.
Overall, the Comfortfit Curved is a solid pillow (literally). It could be great for back and side sleepers, but it is definitely a no go for stomach sleepers. I went for the Standard size and I found it already rather big. As a word of precaution, the pillow can be quite different from your typical down pillow. Even though I was able to adapt on the fly, anyone that is considering a purchase should try out the pillow in advance.
